Conrad van Rooyen

General Manager

With electrical engineering qualifications from the University of Queensland, Conrad has built industry leading expertise in the design, implementation, and performance review of many facets of energy control systems.

For more than 20 years Conrad has applied this expertise across many sectors, including industrial production, utilities, health facilities including hospitals, education, transport, data and communications, and oil and gas.

Conrad established Hexeis in 2009 as a specialist electrical engineering consultancy to optimise the performance and efficiency of energy systems, particularly through control and monitoring systems.

Conrad has led innovation from the very beginning of his career. As James Hardie’s Systems Engineer in the 1990s, he helped design and implement an electronic materials production scheduling and reporting system, transforming the previous manual paper-based system. The new ‘just in time’ production scheduling delivered greater control, efficiency and reduction in waste, while increasing productivity, quality, and profitability. The productivity benefit of this innovation led to global recognition and application.

In the early 2000s he further developed and explored software and coding applications to automate electrical control and monitoring systems. Conrad held multi-faceted roles including electrical engineering consulting, research and development, business development, and training.

As an engineering operations and maintenance specialist, Conrad also assisted clients in the emerging gas industry in regional Queensland by creating new control and monitoring systems for large gas production fields.

Today, as the General Manager of Hexeis, Conrad supports more than 60 clients who embrace his ‘habits of excellence’ philosophy to optimise the performance of energy systems, operate more sustainably and achieve greater return on investment.

As soon as I first saw software control systems in the 1990s, I knew the quantum and quality of available data was powerful.
My career has since been focused on how to best generate, access, and interpret data to optimise performance, efficiency, and reliability for clients.
